Furthermore, as part of the power consolidation process, effort was made to also reduce the amount of power consumed. Whilst this was a process that was extremely difficult to monitor - due to a significant upturn in customer activity and associated consumption - it can be shown that efficiency was improved, and an environmental awareness introduced.
Critically, building design, selection of environmentally efficient and low energy consumption products were introduced through specification and best practice, fresh-air air-conditioning units, heat-reclamation units, cost effective lighting solutions, etc.
In addition, work is currently underway with a consortium on a blue print of an ultra-low energy and environmentally friendly data-centre concept, potentially changing the whole data-centre market at its core.
